The Meridian Speedway

While Meridian has it's share of car race tracks (Queen City and Whynot Raceway, for instance - not to mention I20/59) in this case "Meridian Speedway" refers to the joint venture between Kansas City Southern - and Norfolk Southern in developing a high-speed freight line between the west coast and Atlanta. The Meridian Speedway is the portion of that project between Meridian, and Shreveport, LA. Both railroads are investing heavily in the needed infrastructure improvements. One of the reasons the Executive "F" units from both railroads were present at Meridian's Rail Fest 2007 was to celebrate the progress made so far. One such improvement was the upgrading and grooming of the trackage along the route. Some of the equipment used to groom the track is a most impressive machineshop on rails. The pictures below are on the route just to the west of Meridian.
